SYDNEY, NOVA SCOTIA
Susan Covey is a creative and design artist, published writer, poet, composer and business professional. She learned to draw at the kitchen table that was pressed into service as a drafting board because her mother made ends meet creating murals and signs on the kitchen table. Susan studied art history in college and later entered the field of advertising when she worked– drawing storyboards and advertisements in the days before computers.
Susan uses drawings whether pencil, pen and ink or the dirt in the back of the car window to explain ideas and concepts with this becoming a major driver to some of her business success.
I enjoy the process of the physical act of drawing, try and keep my work simple and uncluttered yet with a view to how thing work. I hope people can experience space and time with my sketches. A fun side project currently underway is to create a font based on my family’s writing style.
Her visions of landscapes incorporating trees, flowers, shorelines and rocks pepper her drawings with a draftsman’s eye to record places in time. She also creates larger than life art spaces like a 25 metre walking labyrinth for a community arts festival. Many of her customers have had her draw both their home and business locations. Susan looks forward meeting visitors to Louisbourg Plein Air Event in the summer of 2010.
