What do I get?

Your $50 fee (non refundable, payable online or by mail before July 20) will get you:

• inclusion in the two day open air painting event;
• a right to post and sell your art in the event gallery;
• two days park admission to the Fortress of Louisbourg historic site;
• entrance to the artists’ mixer;
• an event t-shirt;
• a box lunch each day.

What should I expect?

The two day plein air event will keep you busy enough to make it worth while but also give you enough free time to bring the family along, enjoy the scenery, take in some local culture, and relax for the long weekend .

The day lasts from 9:00am – 5:00pm, both Saturday and Sunday, and has a suggested flow as follows:

Saturday – Sunday
8:30am – Artists show up and sign in
9:00am – Begin painting
NOON – Suggested drop-off of completed artwork (artists may drop off any time during the day) / enjoy your box lunch
12:30pm – continue painting
3:30pm – Suggested drop-off of completed artwork (artists may drop off any time during the day) / final time for take-away prices
4:00pm – Best of show is announced
4:30pm – Bidding closes
5:00pm – Art is awarded to winning bid
(you can schedule your day any way you wish, while keeping in mind the drop times and gallery hours)

Saturday Night
6:00pm – Artists’ mixer

What about my family?

There is more than enough to see for families who wish to come along ad make you visit to Cape Breton a long weekend vacation. We have put together a couple family packages which may interest you:
Family of 2:
Single registration to the Under the Arch Plein Air Event.
1 extra (1 day) park admission to the Fortress of Louisbourg.
1 extra ticket to the Artists’ mixer.

Family of 4:

What should I bring?

We would love to be able to supply everything you need during the plein air event but we know all artists work differently. Therefore it is up to each and every one of you to bring what you need to make your day comfortable. A few items which will come in handy are:

• Plein air art supplies
• Chair or collapsing stool
• Umbrella (to keep the sun off or incase of showers)
• Comfortable shoes
• A selection of clothes both warm and cool (Louisbourg has some unpredictable weather at times, it can go from clear and sunny to cool and foggy in a few short hours)
• Water, drinks, snacks to keep you going for the day
• Cash, debit or credit card to pick up a memento of your weekend at the Event Gallery
• Smile and a willingness to meet new people
